Though it might be beneficial to have specials dedicated to them, such practices also promote the notion that such things are distinct from and unrelated to the core subjects. Perhaps infusing them into those subjects would be more purposeful, as students would get a sense of the overlap among different domains of knowledge, especially within different contexts.

Common Core definitely makes things more rigorous, but it doesn’t necessarily have toco e at the expense of the activities that develop their gross motor skills or vice versa. What with this agent’s emphasis on language, it can fit right in. Common Core, in the primary grades, focuses a lot on morphology and phonemes, so you can select a student to perform an action, have student describe the action in one word, then get into the units of sound and/or meaning. Same with the arts.
